- Rama is the oldest.
- There traveling companion is Vishwamitra
- Vishwamitra is a sage or rishis
- the three are traveling through the jungle
- they meet Thataka, a female demon or rakshasa
- Vishwamitra encouraged the brothers to kill her
- Thataka was misshapen, mean, and terrorized the area
- Maricha is her son
- Maricha is also a demon
- Maricha is as bad as his mother
- the brothers challenged Thataka
- they did not wish to kill her because she is female
- Rama twanged his bow to get her attension
- Thataka visously attacked the brothers
- Rama's arrows shot off her arms
- Lakshmana removed her ears and nose
- Thataka turned invisible
- She used her magic to make rocks fall on the brothers
- Rama killed her with an arrow guided by sound
- Vishwamitra happy started to chant
the chant brought celestial weapons as a reward for Rama.- The weapons had spirits within them
- the spirits told Rama if he called they would come
- six days later the three were at Vishwamitra's house
- the three prepared a sacrifice
- Maricha and other demons attacked at that time
- their goal was to disrupt the sacrifice
- Rama called his weapons
- one weapon cast Maricha out to sea
- a fire weapon killed Subahu (another demon)
- Rama then killed the rest of the demons
- Vishwamitra and others sages were happy and honored Rama
