Introduction to a Busy Lady

Greetings to all my fellow classmates!  Honestly, I’m not sure where to start this introduction blog.  I guess I can start with the standard basics.  First, my name is Ramona Manzanares.  Second, my current occupation is being an aircraft mechanic.  Third, I am a junior majoring in aerospace engineering.  The following are random facts about myself.  My sun sign is Virgo.  At the age of 36, I have never known a world without MTV.  Although, I must confess, I am not very technologically hip.  This is the first time I have ever taken an online course or blogged.  So far it has been quite a learning experience.

Now I will try to make this next bit interesting, because I must elaborate on my love of airplanes.  For the last 14 years I have been employed as an airplane mechanic.  Personally, I think airplanes are one of mankind’s greatest accomplishments.  The reason being is that a land bound animal gained the ability to fly simply by understanding and applying the laws of physics.  Most of the aircraft I have worked on are passenger and cargo jets.  Below is a picture of the first aircraft I ever worked on, the Bombardier CRJ-200.

As much I enjoy being a mechanic I cannot do it until retirement.  It is physically demanding and as I grow older my body is wearing out.  So, I am attending OU part time while working part time.  Aerospace engineering is a logical choice because I have no wish to leave the aviation industry.  If all goes well I should graduate in spring 2022.

In the little spare time I have between work and school, I like to pursue my favorite hobby.  So, my favorite hobby is collecting hobbies.  The following is a brief list of hobbies I have collected over the years.  Jewelry making, cake decorating, crochet, embroidery, needle point, painting, sewing, yoga, car repair, and dog training.  I guess I try to be well rounded.  In the future I plan to take a furniture making class at the Moore Norman Vocational School.  That way I can learn how to use my grandfather’s shop smith.

Well that pretty much sums up my current comings and goings.  Hopefully I did not make this blog to boring for you guys.  I will see you in the next post!

  1. Hi Ramona,

First of all, it is very cool that you are an aircraft mechanic, that is very different. I do have to agree with you, airplanes are the best, they make the world seem not as big as it is. It also makes traveling very simple and easy. In such a short amount of time we can be across he world in less than 24 hours.

  2. Oh wow, an aircraft mechanic: that is so cool, Mona! My husband is a pilot; he will be so impressed to hear that there is an aircraft mechanic in one of my classes. For an aerospace connection to Indian Epics, maybe you will be interested in learning more about the ancient legends of the Pushpaka Vimana, which is the flying spacecraft that was originally in the possession of the god Kubera, and then Ravana, the villain of the Ramayana, and finally ending up with Rama, the hero of the Ramayana... but where is the Pushpaka Vimana now, eh? That would be such a fun topic for a Storybook! Anyway, when you are doing the brainstorming later this week, you might explore that and see what you think! The gods have flying vehicles too; you'll see them flying around in the sky watching the human battles in art like this: Rama Battles Ravana ... or else riding on their animal vahanas, some of which are winged creatures, like Garuda ... anyway, themes of flights are definitely part of the epic tradition if you want to investigate! :-)

  3. Hi Ramona! I loved your introduction. I think it is incredible that you are an aircraft mechanic. I have a 1972 cutlass that I rebuilt, and although I'm not the best mechanic, it is something I love. It was a very challenging learning experience to say the least. Also, my brother got his pilot's license and instrument rating though OU, so I get to enjoy going flying with him from time to time. All in all, I think what you're doing is amazing and wish you the best of luck!

  4. Hi Ramona! You're right, it is amazing that humans have found a way to fly! Your work in this area seems really interesting. That fact that something as large as an airplane manages to fly is quite incredible, but it's people like you who work on the planes that make it possible! Jewelry making sounds really fun! My mom and I used to do that together when I was little. Anyway, I hope your semester goes well and you get to move into a less physically demanding job like you want to! Good luck!

  5. Hi Ramona!
I enjoyed reading your introduction. It's so cool that you're studying aerospace engineering and work on planes. I have a cousin who also studied the same major as you, and he loves it. Also, I agree that airplanes are one of the greatest creation. I mean it saves so much time, especially traveling across the world. I hope your semester goes well!

  6. Hey Ramona! I'm so happy that you find your spot in the world of aviation. Your experience as mechanic will give you special insight into your future career as an aerospace engineer and it sounds like you . Is there anything that specifically caught your attention about planes as your were growing up? I hope you get the chance to take the furniture making class! I absolutely love working to create things that I use and see on a daily basis because it makes me very proud to know that my creations are functional.

  7. Hey Mona! Dang, that’s such a cool name. I bet you get a lot of comments about your name relating to one of the casts on Pretty Little Liars. No, I don’t watch it; I just seen clips and hear about it from other people. It is awesome that your occupation is being an aircraft mechanic! It is also cool that you want to take a furniture making class for your future! Whatever you do, don’t stop! I know you are going to have a successful future.

  9. Hey Mona,

Wow! Aerospace engineering seems like a tough major.. I have never met someone who was in that area. I don't have many friends who are interested in planes and such, so it is hard for me to relate to your interests, but it's great to see someone who has a passion for something not so general.

  10. Hi Mona.I enjoyed reading your introduction. I think it is fascinating that you are an aircraft mechanic. Human flight is truly remarkable considering how difficult it is. Aerospace engineering sounds like a perfect fit for you. Im glad you found a major that you enjoy. I am looking forward to reading some of your stories for this class. I hope you have a great semester!

  11. Hey Ramona!
First of all, props to you for doing what you want to do! I can't imagine working on those giant beats! I have flown a small plane, but that is as far as I've gone outside of being in a commercial airliner. I hope everything works out with your first online class and good luck with everything at OU!

  12. Hello Ramona! I really enjoyed your introduction! working on planes must be awesome too! Being an aircraft mechanic, I can see why you chose aerospace engineering. I bet that is a rough major to go into! However, I hope you have a great weekend, and good luck with your semester! I look forward to reading some of your stories.

  13. Hey Ramona! I'm just curious about where you work, if you're out here at Tinker? I understand the struggle of going to school and working, it's not for the faint of heart! I'm also not very tech savvy so this course along with another that I'm taking has been quite an eye opener.. and even a struggle in the beginning! I see that you're interested in yoga, and I am too! My project actually happens to be about yoga and the poses so feel free to stop by and read a story anytime! Anyway, have a good semester and I look forward to your other stories!

  14. Hi Ramona! You seem so cool. I like that you label your hobby as "collecting hobbies". It is so cool that you have worked as an airplane mechanic. My grandpa was a car mechanic, and I know how physically taxing that was. I can only imagine how much more difficult it is with airplanes. Especially cargo planes, they're huge! I also think airplanes are really cool inventions. It is kid of crazy that we can take huge hunks of metal and send them through the air.

  15. Hi Ramona! Aerospace engineering is so interesting to me as well. Mainly for more of the fluid dynamics of wings, but I suppose there is a cross section. It's great to know that you really enjoy the major you chose, as I feel like sometimes people choose majors just because it seems fun or easy. But you have a passion for it which is great! I hope all goes well, and that in 2022, you have a fun job within AME!

  16. Hey Ramona! Nice to meet you and read through your introduction! It definitely sounds like you are a busy lady. I have so much respect for people who are already established in a career and decide to come back to school to either further advance or choose another option. It’s definitely not an easy choice and I wish you the best of luck with it!
